Anyway who cares It's all about building faster computers, way more important that the universe lol. Already they're running out of miniaturization, pretty soon 'they' think the transistors will be so small they'll run into quantum problems, like matter moving spontaneously through solid matter screwing up the computations (quantum tunneling, if I got that right).
It's so mysterious and downright odd. As Clarke said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Not only will the quantum computers stop working if the chips are observed, they will not 'know' how they got the answer in the first place.

I assume we could now try something equivalent to a million monkeys on a million typewriters, and see how long it took a Shakespere play to show up?

Monkeys are more interested in selfies.

Guardian article excerpt:
Are there commercial quantum computers?
There is a commercial computer out there but it's very expensive ($10m), it has very limited computing power and it hasn't yet been verified by anybody externally [as to] what it's actually doing.

According to what I've learned there is no way to verify what it does. If you look while it's working it screws it up (observation changes its' behavior) and if you try to find out afterwards there's no way to tell.

I've been watching Pete's excellent video. I'm stopped at the 5:45 point,
All objects are waves?
The marbles must pass through both holes at once?
I don't buy this stuff. I think the correspondence of patterns does not mean that parrticles (balls) are waves. It just means the patterns match. This stuff is voodoo, literally, saying there are links between things that look alike.
Here's a test. Have two walls, one with one hole in it, one with two. Send the marbles through the one-hole wall, and note the pattern. Then send marbles through only one hole of the two-hole wall. If the marbles are 'passing through both holes at once,' the pattern in the second case should differ from the pattern in the first case.
