It may be mentioned in the article but the Baltimore City Detention Center is the oldest continuously operated jail in the country. It was opened in 1801, over 200 years ago. It's a disgrace even by the disgraceful standards of the US prison system.

Our jails don't even resemble that crap. I've visited ours before & it's a nightclub compared to most including L.A. county.
