WASHINGTON — Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) wants kids to learn early in life that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. To make sure they absorb that lesson, he’s proposing that low-income children do some manual labor in exchange for their subsidized meals.

Labor to be performed at one of his private businesses, .25 an hour to be paid directly to the school lunch program.

If he would pay them $15 bucks an hour and let them buy their own lunch I might support this.

I suspect this is a republican ploy to shoe back in child labor as legit... that pays a paltry well below minimum wage, otherwise why even bring it up? The plan would be to bring down wages across the board. More money for the .01%

I missed this while I was in the Philippines:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowling_Green_massacre

It was actually used in a serious poll survey. Talk about fake news.
I think Kent State was the only land-grant university massacre in Ohioan history but I could be wrong.

Coincidentally my thoughts too.

Fundraisers are becoming too expensive. Have kids work at those for 25 cents an hour, take credit for helping the poor while people are feasting on $1K dinners. What's next, voluntary slaves?

We already have them.

That's essentially what a low wage worker is.
