The fear and loathing of the right wing gaggle i mentioned is waxing now, and disparagement of social security can only fuel their determination to tear it down.
I pointed out my view of FDR and the Democrat's New Deal prior to this primary season.

There's been an ongoing campaign to return the country to the industrial feudalism of the latter 1800s by those who can never have too much and the idiots that carry their water.

They'd be happy with pre 1929, but with all the modern amenities.

Indeed. And the masses are too powerless and busy trying to make ends meet to do anything about it. History...repeating itself.

And we have wall street traders working day and night to part us from our investments.

For instance, how they managed to "earn" 25 billion in bonuses last year when my managed Roth IRA barely nudged.

The we have the republican party working day and night to ensure working man wages never go up while medical and education costs beat inflation by double digits.

^^^ Agree.

Too much hassle and too much stigma always come with means testing. And the 'savings' would be inconsequential, unless you truly want to make receiving social security a marker of poverty.

Better to keep it universal: everybody pays, everybody gets.

If they were serious it would have been characterized as a responsibility.

Rich people no longer have to be responsible...for anything. For some odd reason, here in the US rich people are worshipped and allowed to do anything they please....even murder.

Therefore we must pander to their sense of obligation. We must shame them into doing right.
