While I applaud the auto industry for employing the visually handicapped I really don't believe they should be aligning headlights.
Rob, I love you, man ! You're even a bigger, better Smartass than I am ! Mbwahahahahaha !!

Naw, seppuku has been replaced with public weeping and "Oh, so sorry".

Why, ( may I ask ), didn't this person simply turn the ignition key 1 click backwards to simply shut down the power? Throttle sticks open going 94 mph and he calls 911. A cop has to get in front and use his brakes to help the driver stop the car? Good God, I thought everyone knew to turn the key back .. or at least take it out of gear. If taking it out of gear fucks up the motor ... so be it, at least they could stop it from running away and killing someone. Turning the key back only 1 click to kill power '' will not lock the steering ''. Why wait until you've burned up you brakes and a cop has smoked his slowing you down to 50 before thinking to simply shut off the ignition? Woulda avoided all that if the driver had simply shut off the ignition in the first place.
Thats the first thing I taught my kids early as age 5, '' before they rode their dirtbikes & ATV's, and common sense was there before they drove a car for the first time ''. Fools, just to many of them on the roadway.

Right! It's not Toyota's fault!
Seriously, I think I remember reading that one of these runaway Toyota cases the driver did attempt to turn the key off and shift to neutral but neither worked. A major electronic fault could conceivably prevent the engine from shutting down and, in the case of an electronically controlled transmission, keep it in gear.

Oh, I'm not siding with Toyota. Trust me .. I just think folks should try the key first as a natural instinct. If the computer faults, then at least you tried.
Why keep building something that complex if it's been known to have a mind of it's own? I drive simple shit .. the type that I'm in control of.

I hope Toyota goes tits up, and that goes for all those Jap cars. I get a kick out of my lib neighbor crying about not be able to find a job, while he's leaning on his import. The little bastards are always in the way too, at least for us folks cruising down the road of life with our fuel guzzling American made V8s.
