No. I truly wondered. A bit defensive aren't we?

Since you asked. The TP gang made what they knew at the outset to be a completely unobtainable demand, and backed that demand with a threat to severely damage the US economy, if it was not met. That places the consequent damage to the economy squarely at their feet.
