Surprise!

"White Houston Candidate Wins Election By Tricking Voters Into Thinking He's Black

It was a surprise to many voters when Dave Wilson, an anti-gay activist and white Republican candidate for public office, was elected to a seat on the Houston Community College Board of Trustees in a heavily African-American district. Most surprised were the voters who actually elected Wilson, who had led them to believe that he was black.

Wilson managed to beat out Bruce Austin, the African-American incumbent for the last 24 years, by willfully deceiving his voters. While making sure that photos of himself were kept from the public eye, Wilson instead filled his campaign materials with "smiling African-American faces" cribbed from the internet.

The materials also proclaimed that Wilson was "Endorsed By Ron Wilson," the name of a black former state representative...and, as the fine print on the campaign mailer explained, is also the name of his cousin.

Wilson defended his campaign strategy by explaining that he was elected on the issues rather than race, despite that fact that he used racially-charged tactics to do so.

“Every time a politician talks, he’s out there deceiving voters," Wilson told KHOU.

Although Austin says he plans on asking for a recount, it's expected that Wilson will keep his seat for a six-year term."

Not that I condone what this guy did, but this also speaks to the fact that many voters don't educated themselves on the candidates before voting.

That's the first thing I thought of too. Well after I stopped laughing.

Odd, I don't find success through deception funny.

This kills me:

"The materials also proclaimed that Wilson was "Endorsed By Ron Wilson," the name of a black former state representative...and, as the fine print on the campaign mailer explained, is also the name of his cousin."

Admittedly though if I voted for this guy I'd be out for blood.

For those folks in Wisconsin who believed that recalls should be reserved for misconduct, I believe that we have found a textbook case justifying a recall.

Unfortunately a lot of people do. It's a "win at all cost" mind set.

All it demonstrates to me is how far a Republican will go to make people think he is something he clearly is not, never has been never will be and how successful they usually are at it. Think Reagan, the warrior cowboy..............

I must have a highly advanced sense of humour

D I absolutely agree with you regarding a recall.
