I remember when Ohio went 18 to 21. I fell in the group that was granfathered in. I didn't drink at all at the time, but more than once I was able to "buy beer" for a party. I was working at Kings Island at the time. Damn, I miss those days. A lot. Youth is cool. When I was that age I could talk to hot young girls all day long and nobody made that face they make now.

I can see a reasonable argument for raising the driving age rather than lowering the drinking age. There is a significant difference in the maturity of an 18 year old compared to 16. One possibility would be to issue a limited license at 16, that would not permit any passengers other than family members. Add a passenger at 17, and full driving privileges at 18. I can tell you that the laughing, yelling, cranking the music (not to mention fondling) and all can impair a teen driver nearly as much as alcohol. It would make sense to keep 16 as an age to drive, which would allow the drivers to grow in experience and maturity before they are entitled to carry passengers.

Regards,

D-Ray

That reminds me of a great song that Pete Townsend did with Ronnie Lane in an album called Rough Mix. The title of the song is Misunderstood.

Quote:
Just wanna be misunderstood
Wanna be feared in my neighborhood
Just wanna be a moody man
Say things that nobody can understand

I wanna be obscure and oblique
Inscrutable and vague
So hard to pin down
I wanna leave open mouths when I speak
Want people to cry when I put them down

I wanna be either old or young
Don't like where I've ended up or where I begun
I always feel I must get things in the can
I just can't handle it the way I am

Why am I so straight and simple
People see through me like I'm made of glass
Why can't I deepen with graying temples
Am I growing out of my class

I always feel I should be somewhere else
I feel impatient like a girl on the shelf
They say that I should live sera sera
But I am such an ordinary star

Coolwalkingsmoothtalkingstraightsmokingfirestoking
Coolwalkingsmoothtalking, yeah

Just wanna be misunderstood
I wanna be feared in my neighborhood
Just wanna be a moody man
Say things that nobody can understand

Coolwalkingsmoothtalkingstraightsmokingfirestoking
Coolwalkingsmoothtalkingstraightsmokingfirestoking
Coolwalkingsmoothtalkingstraightsmokingfirestoking
Coolwalkingsmoothtalking, yeah
By the way, it is a GREAT album.

Sorry for going OT.

Regards,

D-Ray

I was talking to a buddy of mine the other day. He said "what do you think a girl like that thinks when she sees old dudes like us". Unfortunately I was quite clear on the answer- she thinks nothing at all. It's like we're invisible. We do not even exist on that plane of conciousness anymore. We appear to her the same way the video game in the corner appears to us- didn't even notice it was there 'till you pointed it out.
