The Republican power center and voter base was centered in the North and the Democratic in the South until the late 1950s and1960s when it began to shift. No more "Solid (Dem) South" meant a merging of ideologies and the movement of Evangelists into the GOP. Christian Nationalism and the Lost Cause mythology have become one.
