“Trump is the mainstream,” said Allan Lichtman, distinguished professor of history at American University, pointing out that “so-called mainstream Republicans” such as Liz Cheney are now out of office.

Lichtman, who wrote The Keys to the White House, which breaks down a prediction system for determining the outcome of presidential elections, said there was no polarization within the Republican party and denied Trump is not a real conservative. Trump’s policies are an “absolute culmination of 100 years of Republican tradition”, he said. Lichtman compared Trump’s demonization of Muslims with the Republican party’s demonization of Catholics and Jews during the 1920s. Trump’s base wants him to be a bully, he said: they don’t care about his infidelities or sexual assault allegations.

Understood, but the point being made in the quote by Professor Lichtman above is...they're not afraid of him...Trump, his attitudes, and the behavior of the rest of the GOP, and the Republican voting electorate are Republican Party mainstream. Going way back in the history of the party. Lichtman highlights the 1920's, with hate directed at non-christians. But plenty of us saw plenty of this during the Vietnam war. Kent State, Jackson State, the NY City hard hat riots. It's nothing new with American conservatives.

DeFascist campaign is flailing according to this opinion piece and here is my reasoning. DeFsacist is anti-woke, but just imagine if he was actually woke as in well informed. But someone should have told him that his anti-woke message which resonated in Florida, which is turning redder every day, will not work in rest of the country. Even Trump himself admitted that he does not know what woke means.

Yes, it’s too early to definitively write him off. But, no, his poll numbers are not encouraging, except to his opponents; his strident “anti-woke” messaging has not resonated with voters; his affectless campaign style does not make him seem any more human than the animatronic characters created by his nemesis, the Walt Disney Co.; and his successive campaign resets have not been enough to reassure some of his biggest donors that he has any idea what he’s doing.

His donors have closed their wallets and some have even criticized his campaign. Three reboots and the screen still says "Wake Up".

How badly is it going for DeSantis? On Jan. 20, he was supported by 31.3 percent of Republican voters, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, and he trailed Donald Trump by just 13 points. By Thursday, however, Trump’s lead over DeSantis had tripled, to 39 points — and DeSantis’s support among GOP primary voters had been halved, to just 15.1 percent.

Poor SOB cannot even win his own home state.

It is still possible that he will be the 2024 candidate of the GOP should Trump were to falter from his four (GA pending) felony cases, or heaven forbid, the Repugnants decide they have had enough Trumpery.

I believe now that jack Smith may be better off with DA Fani Willis leading off to shut off Trump's election interference crap by the Biden administration, come in with bases loaded and hit a home run.
