Maybe there's hope for us

Micheal Gerson is the type of political commentator who, by my political proclivities, I would expect to loathe. He was a speech-writer for Shrub, for gosh sakes. But I find many times that his columns strike a moral chord or demonstrate shared values. Maybe I just appreciated this column because it provided cover for this fifty-something who occasionally finds moisture dribbling down his cheek from emotional circumstances. But I find that I look forward to reading his columns and Kathleen Parker's despite the likelihood that I will disagree with at least some of what each of them has to say.

Maybe our entire national political scene doesn't have to be a hate-fest. If I keep trying, maybe I can convince myself that Rush Limbaugh and the like are aberrations.

Regards,

D-Ray

"This still leaves open the loophole of private sales that do not require background checks, which President Obama wants to close. We will hear more about this in coming weeks, but the call meanwhile to ban assault weapons or limit magazines in the wake of the horrific mass murder of children and others at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut is hardly draconian. It won’t solve the problem of mentally disturbed people exacting weird justice from innocents, but it might limit the toll."
Kathleen Parker WaPo

Goes to show that even a blind squirrel finds a nut, now and then.
I'm sure that Gerson is getting pilloried from both sides for his tears.

Yeah, I was thinking of her column when I posted too. I hate to think that they are the exception rather than the rule, but . . .

Personally I can't stand Gerson, it is about time someone changed his diapers.
