Schumer is a realist. The idea that the government is shut down over non-citizens is a very bad one. It would in the long run take precedence over sentiments.

In the meantime Dreamers - non citizens - are flexing their muscle and have trapped grasping politicians.

Agreed. Dumb and dumber. First the Democratic Senators using the DACA for a shut down, then keeling over within a day after realizing that this was indeed a bad idea.

And now the Dreamers are protesting? Dreams may soon become nightmares if the ultra right wing of the GOP were to flex their muscle in the House, a distinct possibility. I would bet on this. They may fight tooth and nail over the granting of citizenship at the very least.

The Democrats need to stop playing around, quit being so nice to the Republicans. They only take it as a sign of weakness.
Write up legislation on Illegal Immigration for both houses. That will seize the Property and or Assets of employers / landlords who engage in financial transactions with Illegal Immigrants.
No Wall until the first check is in the bank from Mexico.
Call the Republicans bluff on DACA, let them start rounding them up for deportation. See how that plays on the 6 o'clock news.

It is more complex than that.

1)Both parties are using the Immigration issues for political ends.

2) Right now "Dreamers" are entering the US, especially from the Mexican side.

Instructive: Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million.

^^ The GOP is playing the villain to cater to their base whereas the Democrats are playing the good guys and hoping to enlarge their base. The Democrats are also gving the illegals false hope since they cannot guarantee a path to legalization. Since Regan, amnesty is a bad word. So this political circus continues with no end in sight.

The GOP will always have the upper hand on this, since the law is on their side.
