Inauguration Day

I thought this was a good way to look at today's inaugural

Quote:
After the Oath of Office is administered, the President will deliver his Inaugural Address which will be cheered or booed based, not so much on what the President says or doesn't say, but upon what the observer was pre-disposed to think of it.

Far more important than the events of today will be what actually happens in President Obama's second term. There is something known as the "Second Term Curse" which probably doesn't stand up to scrutiny, but when things go badly during a Presidency, it is more likely they will have gone badly in the second term.Watergate, Monica Lewinsky, Iran-Contra, to name a few, all blossomed in the Presidents' second terms.

Former New York Times reporter Adam Clymer wrote a summary of these (and second term successes) shortly after the election last fall.
Nevertheless, it will be a glorious day here in Our Nation's Capitol - and it would be even if it were cold and rainy.

It's Inauguration Day and, if nothing else, we should all celebrate the continuity of democracy it represents.

That was so . . . objective.

Any scandal on Obama's part would not be as bad as a Romney and Ryan administration. I will take Obama on his worst scandal ridden day over those guys.

When I think of Monica Lewinsky I think of the dead men and women left behind in Iraq and Afghanistan and know who was really the worst president of the United States since Nixon. And I am not talking about Clinton.

An email I rec'd this AM, ain't I special?

"Robert --

I just renewed my oath of office to serve as your president for four more years.

Thank you for making this possible. It's an honor to be your president.

Now it's time to finish what we started -- let's get going.

Barack"

Watching it on MSNBC, an interesting tidbit was that not one protest permit was applied for. Wow! Where did the Tea Party go? Not one idjit with teagags stapled to their hats in the crowd.....

A sidenote: I'll bet the Presidential limo weighs as much as three of Pete's Lincolns.

I only got this one from Uncle Joe.

Good afternoon --

Taking the oath of office is a serious piece of business.

And being part of an inauguration has a way of focusing the mind on what's to come. That's what President Obama meant earlier today when he said, "My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment, and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together."

In the months ahead, we're going to be tested, and nothing about the challenges we face will be easy.

So we're going to need you with us -- to build support for solutions, to help move the country forward.

Make a pledge to be a part of that effort. Say that you'll join us.

As citizens of the United States, we're a people who draw strength from our diversity of opinion. We take pride in that.

When we disagree, we debate. And where there's common ground, we act -- even though those solutions may be less than perfect.

But we never stop moving forward. That's our obligation, the responsibility for which we've been entrusted.

And a duty like that is impossible to fulfill if you act alone.

We need you to step up. Pledge to stand with us, and we'll reach out to add your voices to the debates in Washington, to work with you to make this country a better place for everyone.

Join us for the next four years, and help make history:

Thanks,

Vice President Joe Biden

P.S. -- Watch President Obama's full inaugural address.
