Roger on that! I missed the U.S.S. New Jersey when she was here many moons ago, although a friend of mine, who was a Senior Chief (Weapons) on a gas turbined powered fast frigate at the time, picked me up a cap. (I wore it out but kept the patch.) I'm fascinated by the history embodied in these old battlewagons. I just wish that we could see her fire a salvo. Now that would make a helluva fireworks show, wouldn't it? I'm really jazzed at the opportunity to walk on those old solid teak decks. I sure hope that I get a chance to see the inside of her 16 inch turrents.

This is the model I always use to amaze myself with those BB's:

1. Take a Volkswagon Beetle.
2. Fill it full of explosives.
3. Launch it 18 miles with accuracy of 20 yards.
4. Fire nine at once.

Geez...

The USS New Jersey, BB-62, is a museum ship in Camden.
The USS Missouri, BB-63, is also a museum ship in Pearl Harbor.
The USS Wisconsin, BB-64, is a museum as well. She's in Hampton Roads.
The USS Illinois, BB-65, had her keel laid in January 1945 but was canceled after VJ Day and never completed.

Another great one! The North Carolina Class battleships were an even older series than the Iowa Class.

It's worth noting that all these great ships, some of which had 50 year service lives, were built by civilian union labor.
