Indictment

Two deputies have now been indicted in this case. A Grand Jury has ruled that throwing a women down in a gas station driveway, pinning her down, forcing her legs apart, and forcing fingers up her vagina may constitute the crime of 'official oppression,' a misdemeanor. If convicted they faced up to a year in jail.

It's a light enough charge that they may be convicted. It's not the rape charge they should have gotten, of course. But it is an indictment.

There wasn't going to be any deputies put on trial for this in Houston. They got a new grand jury, and "new evidence," and they got a no bill. Cops walk again.

If they smelled pot, wouldn't it have been more proper to take her to the station under probable cause and do it there instead of "on the roadside"?

This stinks to high heaven and I cannot believe prosecutors haven't acted on the woman's' behalf. What kind of country have we become?

You have to ask? Shamelessly authoritarian, apparently.

More about the cops who walked:

Quote:
But on August 4, the DA's office dropped the charges in order to bring the cases before a second grand jury on the same day, and then the second grand jury no-billed the deputies. Assistant District Attorney Natasha Sinclair, chief of the civil rights division, said prosecutors had discovered "significant' new evidence they felt needed to be shown to a new grand jury. But Sinclair declined to say even vaguely what this new evidence was, citing grand-jury secrecy laws that prevent public disclosure of what evidence the grand jury evaluated.

Roadside Crotch Search Was Unconstitutional, Indiana Appeals Court Rules

Here a court said going after suspected marijuaqna in a subject's underwear was unconstitutional. That would certainly rule out roadside body cavity searches for a similar reason.
