Funny how FDR was such a tricky bastard when it came to 'rope a doping' the Republican'ts of his day.

Hmmm, kinda reminds me of the current occupant of the White House. Just wait till the Clinton's move back in 2017.

It was more than just Republicans back in those days.

He also had to deal with all those racist Southern Democrats of that time.

Fortunately for the Dems all those knuckle dragging bastards deserted the party and morphed into Republicans in outrage over the Civil Rights legislation of the 60's and they are now the Republican's problem. And what a huge problem it is.

The Civil Rights Act wouldn't have passed without the Republicans

Agreed though FDR did beat the GOP handily, running on a 'stay out of the war' platform

You're exactly right.

The Republicans had a strong isolationist contingent in those days. FDR was appeasing them and anti-war folks in his own party. Notice the efforts to bolster weapons production and military spending began in the late '30s. FDR and many others knew US involvement was inevitable, merely a matter of "when" not "if". It took Pearl Harbor to jar reality into the minds of the isolationist, not the president.

And today, those Republicans would be despised as "RINOs". Todays GOP recoils at the mere mention LBJ era legislation and policies.

It's because they hate what it represents and believe the country was a better place prior.

Face it. It's the damned truth.

Don't get me started Huffington My favorite is he pretends to go into a zen trance and comes out with 'we can't live in peace, alone' like it was a revelation to him, after preparing for war.
