You cannot appreciate Shakespeare unless you've heard it in the original Klingon.

That Hitler fella sure was a great guy.

I wonder what the CNR's 6000 series locomotives could do? They were a 4-8-2 configuration with near 6 foot diameter driving wheels. Used to watch them haul ass through town as a boy.

They could do a lot but weren't most of the really big American engines designed for very heavy freight trains?

[QUOTE= Piece-itpete] The Russians invented everything first.

That's not as wrong as people think. Some pre-revolutionary discoveries were ignored because they were invented by "the ruling classes". Bit like the German attitude towards Jewish scientists. The Nipkow disc (invented I think in the 1890's) was the basis of mechanical scanning television. I don't know if any were made but drawings show it as a wired system.

The 6000 series came in two flavours, freight and passenger, the freight haulers had smaller driving wheels. I have looked around but could not find anything regarding speed. When I lived outside of Montreal but worked in town I used to pass the Point St. Charles works, where many were built, on my train ride to and from work.

Russia was a great country that may be again, I have no doubt they invented some stuff. The invented in Russia thing was an old joke here - The Americans announce an invention, the Japanese miniaturize it, and the Russians claim to have invented it 10 years ago

I love the old locomotives Rob. How many machines have most of their moving parts on the outside?

Btw I just saw 'The Devils Brigade', a good war movie about TOTL Canadian troops having to work with American misfits. Enjoyable!
