American watches.

Recently I have this urge to spoil myself a little, to spend some money on myself.

One has to be careful in this close knit family of mine. I have to justify my purchase. I am over my audio addiction, but now I have caught the watch bug.

Watches have the advantage that even if the name is Rolex it can be claimed to be inexpensive, because of the Chinese.

People from all over the world use to come to China town in New York to buy Rolex, until Mayor Giuliani broke up that racket.

I am in for a good watch and it I want to be American.

(Often wondered why we were not Switzerland re watches)

I found this on the internet.
Top All American Watches.

I wore Timex watches all my life.

Timex is the finest time piece made by man.

However I always wanted a Seiko Diver's watch.

So a little over a year ago, on my 68th birthday, having recently had one of my coronary arteries stented and realizing that my remaining time may be growing short, I went ahead and treated myself to one from Amazon for about $250 bucks. That was a huge splurge for me.

Watches are more or less an obsolete accessory these days. Most young people don't even own one, preferring instead to refer to their smart phones.

I stopped wearing watches because I destroyed too many of them while working and have relied on my cell phone and then my smart phone for maybe 10 years.

What ever happened to Benrus, Bulova and all the other famous watchmakers? Timex and Hamilton are still around but Timex is now Dutch and the watches are made in China. Hamilton has been making watches in Switzerland for ages and their wonderful old Victorian factory in Lancaster, Pennsylvania is now an apartment and office building.

Perfection via durable accurate inexpensive LCD digital quartz time base watches with 5 year lithium cells is what happened. The Japanese simply made them better and cheaper. The durable and inexpensive Casio G Shock was the end game of that development and the reason GIs no longer use Rolex Sub's and Seiko diver analogue watches as tactical gear.

Never heard of their products. I don't know shit from Shinola!

BTW, from wikipedia- In June 2016, the FTC ordered the company to stop using "made in america" as a slogan as ""100% of the cost of materials used to make certain watches is attributable to imported materials."

I like the Citizen EcoDrive line as a modern practical analogue timepiece, a Suunto Core digital in brushed stainless is my daily timepiece. I also use a Citizen Skyhawk RC Blue Angels,
My Rolex Datejust is out of rotation and retired.

Of this I was somewhat aware, tho not the ruling, the ebauches (innards) pretty much must be outsourced offshore.

Found this-
http://www.popularmechanics.com/tech...an-watchmaker/

So you can get a true U.S. made watch, but I bet it would cost a pretty penny.
