Pope laments: Gender is a choice - taught to children.

The pope laments that children are taught that gender is a choice.

He blames what he calls "ideology colonizing".

I like Pope Francis a lot. But, I don't necessarily agree with this.

Who, besides someone asexual or hermaphrodite, is faced with "choosing" their sexuality? Who should say that is necessary?
Do you /we choose with which we identify, and which we find erotically stimulating, which aren't necessarily directly related?

I think he's referring to the trans issue and the subject of gender dysphoria. That's the only aspect of sexual identity that can arguably be described as a matter of choice.

I can see Francis feeling that someone who is biologically male or biologically female cannot choose to be the opposite gender. He might argue that God may have created you gay or lesbian but He also created you male or female so you're kinda stuck with that.

I dunno if "choosing" to live as who you are psychologically is a "choice" against pretending to be someone/ something alien to your nature.

Neither do I. I'm just describing what I believe the Pope's point to be.

I agree and understand.
In this situation, I think dogma blocks his empathy.

Here's a guy who's sworn off of sex for life, chiming in with his expert opinion on sexuality.
