Personally, I think people are just beginning to see the vapid nature of all the flagwaiving and he-man uber-American hype. Once they see through that colossal smokescreen of utter BS and realize the ideology behind it is even more of a road to nowhere than what the Dems have to offer.......the GOP is going to have a hard go of it for a long, long time.

They have to either come back to normalcy or go the way of the Whig Party....

All this demonstrates the stupidity of Advise and Consent. It may have a purpose in selecting jurists but is about as foolish as one can get with regard to cabinet positions.

Given their track record in VA and the looks of what the back benchers are proposing for this upcoming session things are not about to improve.

Hagel and Kerry will both be victims of carryover from negotiations on other issues. Sorta like how Rice was used in an attempt to make the GOP seem relevant. Then add how he wants to look at cuts to the Military spending and other Right strongly held issues they see red meat.

If I understand the argument the Neocons are making, Hagel is not qualified to be SOD because his foreign policy positions are outside of the mainstream of the GOP. If he held the same views and was a Democrat, would he be qualified?
