"Answer to" has a one sided connotation - most of the people or entities we enter into commitments/agreements with, we do so by choice.

Don't want a mortgage? Save until you can pay cash.
Electricity bill too high? Alternate supply.
Groceries too much? Grow some veggies.

Although the above seem impractical, they are choices we make to insure our system of living remains convenient and workable.

You can even avoid the IRS if you are willing to carve out a life on a meager income.

Me? I just leave the ringer off - I answer to no one.

All politicians answer to their constituency or to a billionaire. Since Trump is already a billionaire, he does not need to answer to anyone. It's the Citizens United States of America we live in and TJ is absolutely right.

There is no absolute. We understand that.

Re the "Answer to" baggage Trump is the least of the candidates. A good slice of the electorate understands that.

You need to believe that because you are a control freak.

It obviously upsets you very much that you can't control me.

Because deep down inside, in places we don't talk about at parties, we want him on that wall, we need him on that wall.

The Republican Party doesn’t want to believe its voters agree with Trump. But...

He talks fearlessly about open borders. this is a sore subject with many
Americans who feel that both parties are playing them. Yes they both welcome
cheap labor and the Democrats want votes.

This is not true.

People just don't get it.

Trump is selling Trump, not policy.

That is what he does.

He his selling his ability to make decisions and reshape things.

Most do not agree or not agree, they value his confidence.

No one has done this before.

The more policy papers he releases the lower he'll drop in the polls.
