Trump is implicated in his attorney’s Stormy Daniels payment for the first time

The headline on the Wall Street Journal’s latest Stormy Daniels scoop is that Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s $130,000 payment to the porn star set off red flags and was reported to the Treasury Department. But what came next seems much more important.

The Journal is also reporting that Cohen couldn’t get a hold of Trump late in the process and that he later complained that Trump hadn’t reimbursed him for the payment to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford:

Mr. Cohen said he missed two deadlines earlier that month to make the $130,000 payment to Ms. Clifford because he couldn’t reach Mr. Trump in the hectic final days of the presidential campaign, the person said.

Ms. Clifford was owed the money in return for signing an agreement that bars her from discussing an alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump in 2006, people familiar the matter said.

After Mr. Trump’s victory, Mr. Cohen complained to friends that he had yet to be reimbursed for the payment to Ms. Clifford, the people said.

Some Republican lawmakers in Utah are so pleased with President Trump’s decision to shrink two Utah national monuments that they want to honor him with his own road, the “Donald J. Trump Utah National Parks Highway.”

The proposal would put the Trump brand on the existing Utah National Parks Highway, 631 miles of scenic roads through southern Utah’s stunningly beautiful canyons, a stretch that includes Zion National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Canyonlands National Park. It was written by Republican Rep. Mike Noel and passed out of the House Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment Standing Committee on a party-line vote Monday.

Republicans praised Trump for shrinking the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments in December, opening them up for oil, gas and coal mining potential. Noel said Trump wasn’t getting enough credit for his efforts. Passing this proposal, he said, was a chance to give it to him.

A Democratic legislator wanted to attach an amendment that the entrance to the highway be named Stormy Daniels rampway. Did not know that people from Utah had a sense of humor.
