Rumsfeld criticizes Dubya and his own Iraq War

“The idea that we could fashion a democracy in Iraq seemed to me unrealistic. I was concerned about it when I first heard those words. I’m not one who thinks that our particular template of democracy is appropriate for other countries at every moment of their histories.”

No shit, Sherlock, but about a dozen years too late.

Just more hypocrisy from a GOPer.

Everyone knows Rummy was all in for the Bush administrations agenda.

But you see, there never was a serious or competent effort made to bring democracy to Iraq, because no one, not Rumsfield or anyone else with half a brain, actually believed in it (except some worker bees with no input into policy and no realistic programs to implement.) It was all just going through the motions because that was the 'political story,' and you just kill your career if you don't officially pretend to believe it.

How can you say such a thing!?

Of course the Bush Administration wanted the Iraqis to have Democracy.

They had even picked out a President for them to elect.

A 60 year old Dude that hadn't lived in Iraq since he was 12.

Rumsfeld:

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know.
There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things we know we
don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.

Rumsfield gets 'credit' for that rap, but it had been floating around in the DOD culture for years before he said it on camera.

Whenever Rumsfeld is mention I think of "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence".

Because it has to be less than 10 words for an old fart like me to be able to remember it.

I do not think any of them believe that bringing democratic crap. It was just part of the argument projected to especially convince a domestic audience and the west in general.

Their true intent...they intended to fuck up Iraq period.

I believe the NeoCons did indeed have the idea that they could install a functioning democracy in Iraq and that it would spread throughout the Mideast. Instead, we got ISIS.
