That the US made every effort to assure the re-election of Yeltsin is beyond doubt.
It is obvious the argument was made that Putin was sympathetic to western goals, most likely by Boris Beresovsky. Hence at that time no flurry of articles in western news papers playing on Putin's significant connection to the FSB.
It is important to note here, that Rosenberg, the BBC's point writer on Russia made no mention of Beresovsky.
It is laughable to write about Vlad rise to power without including Beresovsky.
