If I recall the Patriot Act was a pet peeve of the left during the 08 campaign. A very shrill peeve to be more accurate. 'The evil Reps! Police State!'

But it's OK now? Of course...

It is pretty typical. Blame those who implemented it, not those who use it. It goes with the culture. I don't see much difference with the Republicans who complain about government spending, but are the first in line at taking free grants "because they are there", or a kid who blames all his problems the world because he never asked to be born.

It's as much a case of the trouble of undoing a law once it becomes law, particularly one that gives that much authority to the Executive Branch. The way the GOP screams "terrorism" any time anyone stubs their toe, it's little wonder that Obama wants to keep these tools available.

Good point. Just wait until the GOP starts to try to "undo" Obamacare and see what happens.

Who is going to downsize Homeland Security?
And who likes to give up power over ordinary citizens in any political system?
I am not making excuses for the Obama administration but campaign promises are mostly pandering and seldom kept.

To wit, George W. Bush said the following during his second debate with Gore in 2000:

"If we're an arrogant nation, they'll resent us. If we're a humble nation, but strong, they'll welcome us. Our nation stands alone right now in the world in terms of power, and that's why we have to be humble, and yet project strength in a way that promotes freedom."

As for the NSA program that has been ongoing for at least seven years, Obama is caught in a Catch 22:

If Obama continues Bush's spy program, he is a dictator.

If Obama curtails Bush's spy program, he is soft on terror.

Could he be both?

I'd say neither is the correct answer.

No it is not OK, but with the Congress we have there is bloody little to be done about it.
