Running/Walking Shoes

Here's the scoop:

My wife and I speed walk 5 miles a day at James Island County park - (it is awesome - separate doggie beach - more on that later).

Need to find optimum shoe - so far:

Nike fits/feels the best but they wear out fast.

Reebok lasts longer but fit like bricks.

Going to give New Balance a shot - have a pair I wear at work - very light and comfortable; we will see how a daily exercise pair stands up to the grind.

Your experiences? Thanks!

Shoes tend to be individual things. No manufacturer's lasts are ideal for all feet so what fits me perfectly might give you corns. That being said, I've found that Salomon shoes fit me better than others I've owned.

Thanks - I'm going to give New Balance a shot.

As promised (not my video, found it), James Island County Park doggie beach - it is worth the daily exercise just to walk by these guys and watch them whoop it up.

I don't have feet, I have flippers. I'm 5'6" and wear size 11-1/2 EEEEEE.

Anyhoo,

I usually buy whatever I can find that fits right and doesn't cost too much.

Give New Balance a try.

My reason: they still retain 25% of their manufacturing in the US.

Zero for Nike.

Been going to a store for years now that my son's HS CC team got a discount at, whenever a new pair is needed. The employee's are all runners and it is locally owned. They know feet and the mechanics of motion. I also have prescription arch supports so getting a proper fit is all important.

Been wearing NB also for at least 10 years or more.

The brand is not relevant. Each brand will offer a plethora of styles, each of which will offer different characteristics.

Additionally, each offering will be built from a different last.

This allows all major manufacturers to offer product that will fit virtually all feet.

Buying by brand, IE Puma, New Balance, Asics, Nike, Adi, Reebok is more tribal identification than it is utilitarian.

I source Puma for both casual and performance footwear for example.

The same materials... the same factories even... are often used for the major brands so wear is not a characteristic of a brand but rather of a style.

There are shoes built specifically for speed walking.

I don't speed walk for obvious reasons so I just order Hush Puppies slip ons standard 8D. They fit like a glove and are comfortable.
