That was Gen. "Buck" Turgidson's line, I believe.

Bicentennial Man with Robin Williams

A thoroughly enjoyable flick.

I watched "Crave" on netflix last night.

Kind of like "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" only really really dark.

I have to admit, I could relate to some of the dudes fantasies.

The Admiral: Roaring Currents: The defeat of a much superior Japanese naval force by the Koreans led by Admiral Yi Sun-sin.

Available on Netflix.

Korean production has really come a far way. Very good and visually stunning.

I rented "Gone With The Wind" last night on Amazon for three bucks.

I hadn't seen it since the early 70's so it was quite interesting to watch it again with a more up to date perspective. It's very entertaining. Quite a production for 1939. And you can't take anything away from Clark Gable. The Dude is awesome as Rhett Butler.

That being said I found much of the movie to be cringeworthy because of the obvious racism that prevailed in this country in 1939. The parts they gave to the black actors and they way they had to portray their characters was downright embarrassing to say the least.

And then there was the glorification of the south along with the demonization of the "Yankees".

The way the southern whites were were portrayed as honorable well mannered ladies and gentlemen who were kind to their slaves and in turn the slaves were loyal and happy and grateful to serve their kind masters.

What fucken bullshit.

Margaret Mitchell was born in Atlanta in 1900, only 35 years after the Civil War had ended. It's a virtual certainty that she was raised in a family which still had living members who had experienced the war. It's even possible that the physical scars of the burning of Atlanta were still somewhat visible.

Oh, and if you want to get a real lesson in racism and anti-Northern sentiment during the early 20th century, watch D. W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation".

Watched Chaplin last night. It was enjoyable enough, but not the masterpiece that it was touted to be. It was actually a bit slow. It did make me want to take in some of the Chaplin originals, though.

Regards,

D-Ray

Family trivia - Gramps, who had an auto upholstery shop in Culver City, Ca., did the upholstery work on the fancy carriages in that movie. He had to order a special sewing machine from Sweden with a 36" throat to do the work.
