There are 212 Democrats in the US House. If 5 Republicans don't vote for Jordan he will lose in a floor vote for speaker. And there are 55 Republicans who may be fine with Trump being their nominee, but who don't want an asshole like Jim Jordan to be their speaker.

The Repub speaker selection has come down to political differences within their own party and not easily solved. MAGA aligned members of course would love to have Gym be the speaker and they will spend rest of the term running interference for Trump while passing bills that will not be passed by the Senate or Biden. Intent here is to blame the Democrats and point fingers at them as the problem. But this will hurt their moderate members and all it takes is a handful of them saying no to block Gym.
If they get desperate, I still believe they will nominate Trump to score points with their base rather reach across the aisle because that could be a career ending move for a lot of them. But if five moderates can say FU to their colleagues and vote with the Dems, the problem would be solved in minutes. Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern seems to be a possibility and he is now being mentioned as a compromise candidate.
