The military waste money? Naw, say it isn't so!
I was in the Navy when the DoD instituted the "Waste, Fraud and Abuse" reporting system. We were given a phone number and a big speech about how it was "imperitive" that "Wate, Fraud and Abuse" be eradicated, and we were admonished to "report without hesitation" any excessive costs we discovered. So, one fine day I picked up the phone and dialed the number. The voice on the other end requested my name, rank and squadron, then asked for a part number and description of the part I was reporting. It was a "canopy de-fog mating horn", a piece of aluminum tubing, 8" long with a mating flange and a mounting bracket welded to one end of it-----$7,600.
Three days later, I was called into maintenance control and basically told to keep my mouth shut. A few months after that, I ordered another of the same item-----$8,200.

So it is alright to stifle a person's voice when it comes to their job. Then it seems it would not be to much longer before it is alright to silence ones voices elsewhere right?
I'm afraid there are companies that wouldn't mind too much if slavery or serfdom were legal. Getting there slowly it seems right now.
If you just were to look back just a few years ago. When the Unions were stronger and tax rates higher on the rich. Seems to me like the standard of living was a bit higher for all then.

Very true. Where else can you get 10 sick days when you work 72% of total days a year I do, and get a 10% raise this year?
Keep wondering why taxes, levies, and unions are going down in flames.

Maybe it is because people would rather take the dog-in-a-manger approach and pull others down rather than pushing themselves up? I never took a management position here simply because the majority of companies suck with regard to their treatment of employees.
It is what we called mushroom management - keep your employees in the dark and feed then lots of horse manure.

Oh I'd love that kind of benifit package - but no one else is getting it, campaign promises over the last 30 years notwithstanding.

Its amazing how that perspective changes when the shoe is on the other foot, and you're actually in a management role.
