Just finished Proof of Heaven today and I have a lot to think about. Some of the things he wrote mirrored things that I wrote in my letters to Florence those near thirty years ago. And that reminds me the 12th will be the thirtieth anniversary of our meeting. I need to think of something to do to mark that occasion.

Thanks, and I just did a 'something'. I recalled that Florence wrote in one of her letters that we wrote such beautiful words* that we should write to each other from time to time.

Well after thirty years I just did because reading the other book made me realize, though I had suspected as much before - we were destined for each other from birth. He just saw the opportunity to put us together during that blizzard. All of the coincidences were too much out of character for both of us, or for the weather conditions.

*Even our son, who has read them, said they were beautiful and poetic.

Again, I'm reading "Impact" The battle story of the Tenth Armored Divison by Lester M. Nichols. This is the story of one of the armored divisions that fought in the European theater against the Nazi regime. It consisted of three combat commands of approx. 10,000 men per command and a headquarters battalion, which is where my Dad served.
Combat command B was ordered into Bastogne one day before the 101st Airborne and was the only armor they had through the siege of Bastogne. Gen.A."Nuts" McAullife 101st Airborne was the commander in charge and CCB 10thAD was attached to his command.

Here's a link, check out the videos.

I've visited Bastogne 3-4 times over the years. Interesting and emotional place.

The 10 AD 'Tigers' finally got a memorial on the road to Mardasson in 2011. A blown off turret from a Sherman "Zippo" tank. CCB received a Presidential Unit Citation for their part in the defense of that city. Bloody business. Georgie Patton sure liked having the Tenth out in front during their 164 days in combat. Dad was a mail clerk and never rose above the rank of private. I'm still scratching my head over finding his bronze star in his effects after he passed away. I also have a souvenier bust of the Roman 'Maid of Trier' he picked up back in the 1980's hanging on my wall. One of the Tenth's stops on their way to Austria.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
67 Years Later – A World War II Division’s Combat Action Is Finally Recognized
Bastogne, Belgium - December 8, 2011The combat actions of the U.S. 10th Armored Division in the defense of Bastogne during WWII’s Battle of the Bulge will soon be recognized with the placement and dedication of a plaque in the city where they boldly fought nearly 67 years ago. Regrettably, the actions of the 10th Armored during the battle have been largely neglected in history, while the 101st Airborne Division is often the lone unit credited for defending the town. The plaque will document and acknowledge Combat Command B of the 10th Armored Division as the first major combat unit to arrive in Bastogne and to defend the town during the initial hours of the battle.
Combat Command B of the 10th Armored Division was rushed north to the city of Bastogne early in the battle, arriving in Bastogne the evening of December 18th, 1944. CCB positioned their defensive teams at three strategic villages to the east of Bastogne – Noville to the northeast, Longvilly to the east and Wardin to the southeast. Their total force consisted of about 2,800 officers and men and 75 tanks. The German force bearing down on Bastogne was comprised of approximately 300 tanks and 50,000 men. After delaying the initial German advance, the remnants of the three 10th Armored teams joined the U.S. 101st Airborne Division for the remainder of the siege. In recognition of their gallant actions, Combat Command B was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.
General Anthony McAuliffe, who commanded the 101st Airborne and attached units in Bastogne during the battle, is famed for his reply to the Germans of, “Nuts!”, when they demanded that the surrounded U.S. troops surrender the city. Some twenty years after the battle, General McAuliffe praised the men of the 10th Armored “Tiger” Division saying, "It’s always seemed regrettable to me, that Combat Command B of the 10th Armored Division didn’t get the credit it deserved in the battle of Bastogne. All of the newspaper and radio talk was about the paratroopers. Actually, the 10th Armored Division was in there a day before we were and had some very hard fighting before we ever got into it, and I sincerely believe that we would never have been able to get into Bastogne if it had not been for the defensive fighting of the three elements of the 10th Armored Division who were first into Bastogne and protected the town from invasion by the Germans.”
The 10th Armored Division plaque will be placed along the road to the Mardasson Memorial northeast of Bastogne on Saturday December 10th at 1:15 p.m. during the Nuts Festival that is celebrated in Bastogne every year.

I just started re-reading Foundation...on my Creative Zio which has a kindle application. I was a member of the Science Fiction Book Club and started first reading it 35 years ago or so..but i never finished the trilogy.

I also started Anna Karina by Tolstoy.
