American Democracy Is in Crisis
Our democratic institutions and traditions are under siege. We need to do everything we can to fight back.

A very good read. However the author's argument against Orban largely fails, since it is based on Hungarian reasons; whereas Orban's talking points are broader...they are European.

The Polish critique is substantive, but misses the ruling party's exasperation with the lack of Polish ownership of the commanding heights of the economy.

‘I support higher taxes’: The billionaire behind the National Debt Clock has had it with Trump - WP

"When U.S. government debt topped a trillion dollars for the first time in the early 1980s, New York real estate magnate Seymour Durst sent every member of Congress a holiday card that said: “Happy New Year! Your share of the federal debt is $5,000.”
When lawmakers refused to act, Durst went further, putting up the National Debt Clock in 1989 on a building he owned just off New York City’s bustling Times Square. Three decades later, the clock is still running, yet U.S. debt has skyrocketed and most in Congress ignore it.
Republicans, including President Donald Trump, campaigned on balancing the budget, yet they have added more than $1.5 trillion to the debt in the past year.
The result is that by the end of 2018, the nation will hit milestone: The federal government’s total debt owed to outsiders (known as “debt held by the public”) will exceed all debt that U.S. households have for mortgages, credit cards, cars, student loans and other personal loans for the first time in modern history, according to JPMorgan."

The "party of fiscal restraint and personal responsibility" is anything but.

Bob Woodward's 'Fear' sells 1.1 million copies in its first week, a record for publisher Simon & Schuster

The more people understand the facts of this administration’s incompetence and disgraceful agenda, the better. Sadly, the Fox “News” morons don’t read, so won’t get any news outside their propaganda bubble.

The fact @realDonaldTrump gave an order to the DoJ to publicly release selective confidential documents regarding an ongoing investigation into him, his campaign, his company, his transition and his White House, is the only reason anyone should need to vote Dem this November.

His campaign slogan should have been "It takes a villiage idiot".

President Donald Trump is privately lashing out at one of his top allies, Ron DeSantis, angrily accusing the Florida Republican gubernatorial nominee of publicly betraying him.

The president has told close associates in recent days that he views DeSantis — who won his Aug. 28 GOP primary thanks to Trump’s strong support — as profoundly disloyal for distancing himself from the president’s assertion that the Hurricane Maria death toll was inflated by Democrats for political purposes.

A Texas school district superintendent is claiming he regrets saying of the Houston Texans’ Deshaun Watson, “You can’t count on a black quarterback.” The comment was posted to a Houston Chronicle Facebook page, and the official said he thought he was responding instead to a private message from a friend...

“That may have been the most inept quarterback decision I’ve seen in the NFL,” Redden wrote in his Facebook comment. “When you need precision decision making you can’t count on a black quarterback.”
