Lovely. Maybe they can resurrect Goebbels to run it.

The culprits? Experts and officials blamed the hacking group "APT 28," the same outfit that the US government says hacked the Democratic National Convention in July 2015 and helped Russia execute an extensive influence operation to discredit Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

Now, a growing number of German politicians are deeply concerned that Russia will interfere in their own elections this coming fall, seeking to discredit pro-European Chancellor Angela Merkel as she runs for a fourth term, and strengthen support for the burgeoning populist party Alternative for Germany (AFD). In response, Berlin is considering new ways of blunting any attempt from Moscow to influence its political process through cyberattacks and misinformation.

Same Bullshit.

And BTW we went into Merkel's phone.

On which planet? The intelligence report said exactly that, just as the Times reported. The only thing the Times is guilty of is having good sources.

It seems the whole point of this thread you started is to conflate the fake news generated, promulgated and beneficial to the right with real news from genuine journalistic sources critical of der Trumpenfuhrer and his agenda. Your post confirms this.

This post shows how poorly you understand modern-day Germany. Germany strongly rejects anything and everything remotely associated with Hitler and the Third Reich, including widespread dissemination of propaganda (the very point of their effort against fake news).

Oh, BS you condescending bilge pump. What the post shows is a desire by the government to squelch freedom of the press, which is something that often originates on the left. It sounds just like Obama's desire to "curate" the news, or "filter" stuff.

People can be their own filters. They don't need Merkel or Obama to be their filter. Having news subject to a filter, which will undoubtedly be subject to political mischief-making, should be unacceptable to any rational, thinking person. The fact that you'd post that article which makes a "Center of Defense Against Misinformation" sound like a good idea shows how poorly you understand history and reality.

Bullshit. Once again, you confuse fake news (fictional drivel like pizzagate) with opinions and articles with which you disagree. The German government (like ours) is acutely aware of Russian efforts here, there and elsewhere to discredit liberal democracy. Your obfuscation on this issue plays right into Russian hands, tovarich.

You've clearly demonstrated that you have no such filter and that rationality isn't your strong suit.

Stupid fake argument. The idea isn't that political leaders should be 'filters.' No one suggested that

It is simple noted that when professional editors were generally able to filter out professional propagandists, things were better.

Better how?

"Fake news" is useful...it democratize "news".

You've clearly demonstrated that you have no such filter and that rationality isn't your strong suit.
There's no reasoning with you on this. You've staked out your position which appears to be this:

- we need a "filter" for news.
- the filter needs to be an arm of government.
- it doesn't seem to bother you that such a filter could, and probably would, be used for political purposes.
- the 1st Amendment of the US constitution was SPECIFICALLY intended to protect freedom of POLITICAL speech and the press. However, if you don't like to don't particularly agree with the content of such speech or press, the government should filter it, 1st Amendment be damned.
- The internet should be subject to government control.
- Even though there is no evidence that Russian efforts / hacking had any impact on the election...ZIP, ZERO, NADA...., we must take action which could have long term negative consequences on individual freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
- The average person is obviously too stupid to protect themselves from "fake news", and folks like you must take action to "protect them".
- Mainstream media sources are not capable of bias and can and should be trusted, even though recent evidence demonstrates that mainstream media is certainly capable of distortions, errors, and and bias.
- You and the left own the definition of "fake news", and resent any implication that mainstream news sources are just and capable of writing, printing and broadcasting BS (a.k.a fake news) as any other news source.

I think that about sums up the content of posts on this topic so far.
