Open carrier clearly reaffirms, emphasizes the right to carry.

It's not about that.
It's about making a children's book about packing heat.

It also puckers the buttholes of folks that are uneasy around conspicuously armed strangers they have no reason to trust. The paradox is that the sort of folks that make political statements with firearms tend to be those other folks don't trust with firearms.

However, there are places and circumstances here where this would not be out of place or inappropriate, nor would it attract attention from fellow citizens, such as isolated communities/ outposts/ businesses, pawnshops, and frontier communities. Open carry discourages someone taking folks in these circumstances as a "soft victim/ easy pickings". I haven't been in such a place in some time and such open displays by other than LEOs or long guns elsewhere tend to make fellow citizens anxious as to motive/intention. Otoh, concealed carry is anonymous and nobody is aware or concerned tho the deterrent factor is less obvious, but anyone might be thus prepared and assuming otherwise would be foolish.

Thank you Pio for your detailed helpful explanation. Do not forget that for a foreigner it is easier to estimate, assume, suspect, what ever else, falsely than correct.

You are welcome, and it wouldn't be totally erroneous to assume that we here are not as civilized/advanced as we like to think we are relative to, say, Scandinavia.

We do have very free speech.

I see open carry all the time, especially in summer when everyone is going fishing. I usually don't bother as I'm fishing in spots where there are lots of other people around, and someone will have a gun if the bear gets out of hand. Besides, the bear wants easy food, which means he wants the fish people have already caught. The best way to handle it is try to get out of the area with your fish when a bear is spotted. If you get cornered, give him your fish.
Down side is once a bear is successful in intimidating someone out of their fish, he's going to keep doing it. This is when Fish & Game comes in and kills the bear. At least two have been killed at my favorite spot in the last week. Lots of people packing heat encountered those bears, and yet nobody fired a shot. They let Fish & Game handle it because it wasn't an imminent threat.
Most bears behave predictably, the weapon is for the few that are uncharacteristically aggressive. The situation with humans isn't any different. Open carry allows for a quicker draw. You won't find people going into bear country with their gun tucked under layers of clothing, and I don't blame those who carry to defend themselves from renegade humans for wanting that same quick draw ability.
I also don't see the problem in teaching your children about weapons of self defense. I was taught. My kids were taught. My grandkids are learning now.
I don't think a book on the subject is a necessity, but it couldn't hurt.

I deeply appreciate this fact and this is one of the reasons why I am still participating in this forum.
