I picked up this the book from the seller on my corner for a dollar. I was
surprised by the good condition of the book.

It had strong arguments for city living. The author buttressed his beliefs for controlled density with beautiful pictures and graphs.

However I am not convinced. I maintain that high density living creates more
social problems than it solves.

A provocative read.

Interesting. He has a lecture on YouTube. It is worth the hour and fifteen minutes.

Halfway through War and Peace.

I am so surprised on how easy a read this is. Do not be intimidated by its length...that is a positive. If you read it make sure it is the Maude translation...they translate the French for you and it is surprisingly modern prose.


I have come to the conclusion that the great thing about the 20th century middle class is that most of us here live like the aristocracy did in the 19th century Europe....no mansions and serfs but leisure time and cars....and they had homes and land which they used for credit. Tolstoy's fictional families always have credit problems and debt...just like Americans do now. Of course they were just a sliver of the population of Russia.

I am reading some Michael Moorcock at the same time.

The second hand book dealer with his one dollar books is a great source.

A Light In The Attic: poems and drawings SHEL SILVERSTEIN

Shel's poems and drawings are really fun.

I was introduced to Shel by my grand daughter and always find his writing
a wonderful experience.
