One other tip that pales in comparion with Ed's epic post is to get your thoughts together and then sit on them for a little while until your emotions calm. Even if you're completely in the right, an emotional/pissed approach clouds the message.
What I decided to do was.................burn a personal day. For the very reason you state, Finn. Time away to regroup, gather my thoughts, formulate a strategy and be ready to face the battle again tomorrow.

Well played, Dave. The "tip" I gave is certainly nothing new or profound. But I use it all the time, particularly when a problem such as yours is being dealt with via email. Hitting that "send" button on a nasty message (that seems "spot-on" in the heat of the moment) is all too easy. I'll let such emails sit for a day or two in my "drafts" folder and read them again when I cool off a bit.

Enjoy the long weekend and spin some nice tunes.

And Eddie, THANKS! It's golden advice you give. Read through your post twice. I guess getting the view from a managers persective helps give me what I need to see. As a maintenance guy I often get stuck betwen production and management. Production is never going to take sole responsibility and management doesn't want to stir the pot by pointing fingers. In other words, "Why isn't this line running?" "The equipment runs like s**t!"...........and then I'm left to prove they're lying. Very frustrating.

But, as you said, if I can prove that I am only frustrated for the same reason that management is frustrated, that I have been doing all I can and my numbers are up-------I win.

I don't bother with email, I like to do my confrontation in person. And at 250lbs and hair free it can be a frightful sight when my face turns red and the veins pop out on my forehead. Sometimes I don't even have to say anything and people get scared.

The email establishes a "paper trail", very useful if you have to go over her head. Plus physical intimidation, no matter how subtle, could backfire especially when the "target" is a woman.

you misunderstood. I did not say to do what Sarah would do I said I think to myself "what would Sarah do?" What Sarah would do gives me a hardy belly laugh which in times of stress that can be very useful.

Yep, and that's all this is. They're getting on her because her team isn't showing enough progress, so she is trying to pass blame. But, she f**ked up when she put it on me. "Woe betides they who tread in his garden."

BTW, I sorted through my reports and work orders. Tonight, I will sit at the shop computer and put it all together on a single sheet, demonstrating the downward trend in maintenance issues over the last month and shoot them out to everyone on the team, including Stephanie (The source of my troubles.). See, I have been posting everything on the Plant SharePoint. Which is what we were told to do. But, apparently nobody has been using it, or at least not understanding what I'm putting out. Sooo, here we go.
