Yes, I've been pretty much all over West Virginia. Matewan is Hatfields & McCoys territory, great natural beauty but lots of ecological destruction and poor, poor people with utterly no sense of hope.

Yep, and highly distrustful of strangers. It's quite palpable. Mingo County is a (in)famously rough place.

I just remembered! The Matewan chief of police during the "Battle of Matewan" was none other than Sid Hatfield. And the role was played by David Strathairn.

I have seen all the series except that one. My favorite is DS9 and Enterprise. I liked Voyager too.
