One suggestion on that problem Rob would be to install a motion activated flood light under the eave. Another trick that works sometimes is the dummy smoked glass dome camera housing.

This is typical weather for NW Arkansas. Except this year we are in a major drought that started June of last year. We have smashed every high temperature record set in the great drought of 1953 and 1954.
Rain is forecast for next week, but temps are expected to remain in the 100's. My lawn is just crackling dead grass. Just the way I like it.
If I were younger, and did not already have a killer job, I would move back to the East coast and start an HVAC business that specializes in AC retrofits. I bet there are folks praying for AC in areas that normally don't need it. It was a huge market here when people started wanting AC in their old/FHA houses. FHA loans did not allow AC units. It was considered a luxury. They required hardwood floors because carpet was a luxury. How times have changed.

Finn is in Montgomery County, parts of which are served by PEPCO so he may still be off grid.

Our house is all electric with a heat pump so A/C is automatic. Funny thing was that on Thursday Florence said "There is hot air coming out of the vents." Sure enough it was set to Cool but still pumping hot air. Calle the HVAC company and the best they could do was Monday. Then I remembered the last time they had been here, similar problem and he showed me what happens. Thermostat is a Honeywell Chronotherm V with lots of pin type contacts. Some seem to get a sort of corrosion and the signal to the pump does not get through. Sure enough saw two pins that looke black, scraped them off with a pocket knife and we had A/C again. Florence now thinks I am a genius. Called the HVAC folks and cancelled.
This particulat Trane 14ES fails into heat mode unless the thermostat say no stupid - cool, so it was doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Another couple of days over 100 here, but a chance of rain on Sunday. The forecast says to expect a Chamber of Commerce day for the All-Star Game on Tuesday: Clear skies and a high of 88. If you happen to watch the game and see smoke drifting over the stadium, its just barbeque from tailgaters.
Regards,
D-Ray

Probably going over 100 today, was 99 in Charm City yesterday. Got out the golf cart and hauled 16 gal of water to the new dogwood. Used the hose to water the new Pachysandra and Perrywinkle plants. May rain Sunday they say.
