(Working for one of the worlds fastest growing coffee companies has it's advantages.)
That is some fine looking equipment, and I'm betting it sounds as good as it looks. Is that a that is the top piece of you set up - slate?

How much do you use your RTR: regular recording sessions or listening sessions?

Sorry BH for getting off topic, but this is the off topic forum.

Back to the heaven in a cup - if we experienced heaven every day, wouldn't it start to get commonplace? But I guess all of us make time for the things that are important to us, and it is far outside of my job description to question someone's personal priorities (but not their public priorities). To me, it's always a treat to listen to vinyl or have some pressed coffee, but it seems a waste of either one to consume/listen while I am working.

Regards,

D-Ray

I like my French press, but I'm trying to save time, thus the need for a drip machine. I have both a glass and a double wall stainless steel 1 liter French press. I drink coffee all day and found myself pressing too much. I do think it is the best way to make coffee. I have an expresso machine, but never really liked expresso.
Love the Revox gear! The turntable is way underrated, (Due to its rather bland, industrial appearance, I suspect.), the sound of that thing with the right cart is sublime. I run a Grado Gold on it. And, in typical Revox fashion, it is built like a friggin' tank. That big, 4' x 8', panel behind the system is an acoustic panel I built myself using 2" thick eggcrate type acoustic foam. The coffee bag underneath the rack is full of foam as well. And I have some 100lb burlap coffee sacks with foam panels inside, but I haven't hung them yet. (We get coffee from all over the world, some have really interesting logos on them. "Babas Beans" are Kona beans from Hawaii. The barrels come from the Blue Mountain Coffee Plantation in Jamaica. I'm told it's an amazing place, the owners home sits atop the mountain, and it has it's own helipad because the only road up gets washed out when it rains.)

You have a really nice press, I see. Is the glass one double walled as well? That's what I would like to get, someday, is a double walled glass press. I'm not really into espresso either. I've had a few cups that were okay, but it's usually too bitter. One of our buyers told me of a cold brew process he saw in S. America that he really liked. They mix the grounds with cold water, let it sit a few minutes, strain it through a cloth filter then warm it up gradually to about 170-180 degrees. He said it's a lengthy process, but it yields an "incredibly smooth" cup of coffee. I doubt we'll ever see that here. We Americans are too impatient.

No, it's just one of those pine 2' x 8' panels you can buy at Lowes, painted "Bombay Burgundy".

I use it to record off of the air mostly. Jazz, Blues and Classical from the local NPR stations.

Can't do too much of that, however. RMGI, Quantegy and ATR all manufacture new tape now, but it's hellishly expensive. A 7" reel of RMGI LPR35 will run you $20----before shipping. 10.5"--$39. Remember seeing 7" reels at Radio Shack for $6? Those days are long, long gone.

Looking good Dave, Luxman made some fine gear, but I'm still a Yamaha man,

CR-3020 receiver
K-1000 Cassette
CDC-755 CD player
PX-2 turntable with Denon DL-160
Teac X-1000R only 'cause Yamaha did not make an RTR
and NS-690 Mk I speakers

There is a Teac 1230 for two track tapes and a Pioneer RT-707 4-tracker sitting in the wings.

Using medium roasted Kauai beans----That is as accurate a statement as any.

Yep, built them originaly for NS-670s but they are solid enough to hold big brother quite handily, we did buy the entertainment center though. I was planning on building it but time ran out.

The Owens Corning people did a nice job on the walls and trim. Just printed of twp copies of the plans so I can head over to the County offices and get a permit since I want to do a drop ceiling and hardwood floor.

You guys with your French Presses, imported coffee makers, fancy schmancy beans and all don't know nuttin about "real" coffee.

When I worked the control center nights at the joint, we had an old 1 gal aluminum pot which had been hot wired because the thermostat had burned up.

We'd fill it out of the big commercial maker in the assembly room, which the cons cleaned out with bleach. Whenever out pot got cold , we'd plug it in until it boiled, drink out of it until it got cold, and plug it in again.

Drank it out of plastic cups, that the cons cleaned out with bleach, and cut it with Milnot. Kinda killed the bleach flavor.

Don't know what kind of coffee we were using, other than it came in big burlap sacks and had been lying around for at least a year.

It takes a real man to set up all night drinking that shit and chain smoking cigarettes, lemme tell ya.

I haven't been able to appreciate a good cup of coffee since.

Chas

When I was "working" for our Uncle Sam at Ft. Stewart, Ga. the Sgt. of the Guard had a 5 gallon coffee pot that would get emptied at least a couple of times every night. His personal cup, which he never washed, was so bad that he could put hot water in it, wait a few minutes, and he had himself a cup of coffee! I never saw the big pot get washed either, they would just add more coffee and water to it and keep on truckin'. That crap would crawl out of the pot if you didn't watch it close.
