When the going gets tough, the tough get going

For the GOP, this actually works in reverse. They do get going out the door very quietly. Now that they have supported Trump for almost 18 months with a nod and a wink, most of them see a tough fight for reelection or certain loss. So instead of standing up and fighting for their principles, misguided as they are, they are exiting in droves. Paul Ryan for now is on top of the list, having bankrupted the country with unsustainable tax cuts. Cowardice is what I see in most of them.

Good news for the Democrats is that with Paul Ryan's exit, the GOP fundraising is in peril.

Here is a current list:

There's a big blue tidal wave coming in November and it's coming for Trump and the GOP.
It's going to be delicious watching Trump and his cronies flail about impudently for the next couple years.

I do agree that the GOP is an a very bad way right now. If trump were removed(say in the next 30-60 days), and Pence were to step up, condemn Trump, and rally the GOP, they could come back very strong in November. Sure he would have to apologize to the American people for Trump, he would have to pick a decent cabinet, he would have to figure out what to do with Obamacare, how to fix the tax code that will bankrupt the country, deal with Syria, and convince the swing vote that the GOP is not all lost. If he could do that he would get a great showing in November.

So not all is lost.

That requires the sudden removal of Trump. Very unlikely unless he suffers an obvious and total breakdown. Then it requires a tremendous lot of Pence.

I'd make the odds very long against the GOP 'recovering' at this point.

Yep, just look at Whell. Facts don't matter, Donny can do no wrong, the press is "biased", loyalty to a man over the law. Absolute sycophant, a la Jim Jones followers. They will drink the Kool-Aid for their Dear Leader.

Long way off to November! Lot can and will happen between now and then.

The GOP is quickly becoming the party of Trump with all of the "talent" walking away. Loyalists of Trump over country will be the only ones left soon. A real testing of our governing as a free and open representative democracy is just a few hours days weeks months away.

Spineless Ryan

Wikipedia is good for easy-to-digest information about any topic your heart desires, but it’s also good for pranks against public figures. This week’s victim was Paul Ryan, by way of the Wikipedia page for invertebrates. As per the page’s definition, “invertebrates are animals that neither possess nor develop a vertebral column (commonly known as a backbone or spine),” and for a brief period of time on Thursday, this included Ryan. Estimated members of described species: One.

GOP Rep. Charlie Dent will leave Congress within weeks, potentially setting up special election
Quote:
Rep. Charlie Dent (Pa.), a frequent critic of President Trump and a leader of the GOP’s moderate bloc in the House, said Tuesday that he will resign from Congress within weeks. His decision could set up a costly special election if the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania orders one.

Dent had already announced his retirement from Congress in September, citing personal reasons for the decision while also lamenting the marginalization of the “governing wing” of the Republican Party as the GOP has moved further to the right.

He said in a statement released Tuesday morning that he will leave “in the coming weeks.” He did not offer a reason for his decision to depart now rather than finish his term.
Dent is considered a moderate and not a fan of Trumpkins but wonder why the sudden resignation.
