The Cruz Surge

So if the Republicans manage to take down Trump, it appears that Cruz may be in position to take the lead.

Quote:
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has surged ahead to become the latest front-runner in the campaign for the Iowa caucuses, dislodging Ben Carson and opening an impressive lead over a stalled Donald Trump, a Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register Iowa Poll shows.

The firebrand junior senator from Texas is backed by 31 percent of those likely to attend the Republican caucuses that start the presidential nomination season on Feb. 1. Trump is a distant second at 21 percent, up slightly from 19 percent in October, but below his peak of 23 percent in August.

Yes, but the Republican establishment hates Cruz too. The difference is that Cruz may be less likely to trigger a revolt within the party and cause a brokered convention.

Cruz seems to be picking up Carson supporters while Trump's support remain unchanged. So now the Trump attack on Cruz has officially begun, first by questioning his judgement and today calling Cruz 'a maniac in the senate'.
So a Trump/Cruz pairing can either seal them the nomination or give us endless entertainment.

"I don't think he has the right temperament. I don't think he's got the right judgment. When you look at the way he has dealt with the Senate, where he goes in there like a, you know, frankly, like a little bit of a maniac -- you are never going to get things done that way."

Cruz is now a solid second.

Quote:
Donald Trump's perch atop the 2016 presidential polls is looking a little shakier this morning.

In the latest Quinnipiac University national survey released Tuesday, Trump leads Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by just four percentage points.

Trump's share remained essentially unchanged from the university's last poll, ticking up one point to 28 percent. Cruz, meanwhile, shot up eight percentage points to 24 percent.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio finished third with 12 percent, a five-point drop since late November, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson continued his downward spiral with 10 percent, a six-point hit in the same period. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie registered 6 percent, his highest level of support in a telephone poll since late May. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took 4 percent, while all other candidates earned 2 percent or less and 8 percent remained undecided

Cruz is just the beneficiary of Carson's implosion. That being said, Cruz is seen by many as "Electable Trump" but the fact is, he's much worse. His ideas and his thought processes are profoundly frightening.

We know and so does GOP that Cruz is dangerous, no one really knows how dangerous Trump will be. So fear of the unknown will be a driving factor as Kasich, Fearina, Christie et. al drop out of the race. Cruz has already offered Rubio a position in his presumptive presidency.
