Frank's insane lyrics were just a vehicle to the music. Listen to "Roxy and Elsewhere. I think you'll dig it.

I dunno, Elwood.

I always considered the music to be an excessively gaudy frame surrounding a beautiful yet burlesque picture, the likes of which would be seen adorning the walls of 19th Century Parisian Bordello.

Zappa's music always reminded me of a party album. To be fair, I haven't listened to much of it.

But what I did listen to was just a little too avant-garde for my tastes.

I was making a lame attempt at a joke. Part of the appeal of Zappa's music to some of us is the absurdity of his lyrics. I wouldn't question your taste unless you told me that you like Wayne Newton or Barry Manilo.

D-Ray

Check out "The Yellow Shark" and "The Perfect Stranger". Even one of his earliest albums, "Uncle Meat", is seriously good stuff.

I have "The Perfect Stranger" with Pierre Boulez on 180g vinyl.
It is magnificent. "An elderly Republican couple attempt sex while Breakdancing." For some reason that still cracks me up.

I'll have to hunt down the other two.

Is that a new release? I'll have to get it. Mine's a download I burned to disc so it's not that great.

April 28, 1973, Spectrum, Philly, my introduction to live music

FZ and Mahavishnu Orchestra, Frankie & Johnnie (hummmm) ripping a duet on double neckers, what an introduction to music.

If it wasn't for RYO's and Mateus my recollection would be clearer
