So the intent here is to make obtaining the ID process itself onerous, not the requirement of the ID itself, but one does lead into the other. The net effect is that this is a form of vote suppression since people without resources will simply not bother.
Onerous and confusing. A student ID from a state-run university? No good. A concealed carry permit issued by the same state? No problem.

All I am advocating is uniformity across the country. By that I mean a picture ID for everyone. It should be free for those who cannot afford it. If that bothers you then make it free for everyone. Problem solved.

Has nothing to do with supressing anyone.

Wasn't impugning your motives, other than to suggest you're worried about solving a problem that isn't a problem.

Am suggesting you've boarded a wagon being driven by people with different motives. Certainly if they did things your way (free id--and free help if burden of proof is heavy) there would be minimal harm to it....

Problem is solved if all states were to adopt vote by mail. Since stamps must be affixed out of pocket, there will be some folks that just will not bother. IMO the mailing should be free.

In a way wouldn't this be a suppression of a State's rights?

Depends. Federal law overrules state law if there's a conflict.

Which may just be perceived as a suppression of states' rights.

We know what "States Rights" is code for.
In a conflict between local tyranny re the BoR and Federal law, States Rights lose.
