Well, we do have a bigger "presence" in the world than any other country.

Interpret that as you like but also look at it from the eyes of other countries.

I remember how people respected the US when I traveled. No more. Ever try to understand why?

Because they're spoiled brats who are happy for us to do the heavy lifting?

I always remember this comment though - 'Dealing with the US is like taking a bath with an elephant. It's uncomfortable, even when the elephant is trying to be nice.'

Blair is simply doing a little "legacy cleanup" here. He's as full of shit as he ever was. English accents do make one seem smart, however.

Ah I see America did it all by its lonesome. Har har.

I think that was Pierre Trudeau, one time Canadian Prime Minister who said "Being a close neighbour of the U.S. is like sleeping with an elephant, you are very careful should the elephant roll over". Or words to that effect.

As regards Tony Blair several of my English cousins referred to him as Pinocchio (see Jcrickets avatar).
