German Nazism the common theme.
Just finished Stranger In A Strange Land by Heinlein.

It was ok....sort of like Hugh Hefner adopts the Messiah with a lot of free love
(from a decidedly male point of view) thrown in. The women are all strong and willful but ever ready to please all of the male characters without hesitation.

Probably was a big shocker in 1962 and sort of fits in with some countercultural ideas but I don't think it has aged that well. Maybe I will try some his "juvenile" books next. I don't think it is my imagination that the talk about "Stranger" has sort of died out as the decades go by. Good beginning but sort of slows down with all of Heinlein's didactic philosophizing.

I want to say I read or tried to read Man In The High Castle.
Didn't seem to be as good as the plot concept.

I watched 'Brazil' for the first time in many many years.

It holds up well. The conceit of representing future culture/technology with a mashup of 50's-60's stuff now strikes one as brilliant; it now seems fresh when an attempt to 'realistically' show future culture from it's 1985 viewpoint would now be sadly dated and wrong. The social commentary/satire is as biting and apt as when new, alas. The weird dream/reality confusion serves to remind us that so much of what we call reality seems normal only because we're used to it. And it's still a wild feast of cultural riffs and references, with each frame and montage crowded with film art. Brilliant movie!

Nazi swine. No offense to pigs.

edit - funny how the lead, Marsha Hunt was a target of McCarthy and the HUAC later on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha...ess,_born_1917)

Bad times at the the El Royale.
Not a great film, but one of those I'd like to see again for the first time.

Read some reviews to save time, his rep as a partisan bullshit artist precedes him.

Scrolling thru On Demand looking for something to watch, checked it out. Well at least the 10 minute of free $hit. Pay for it, NFKNW!
