Steven King can form an image in the readers mind so vivid it draws you in.....almost like being in the story yourself. The last I read of his was "Bag of Bones".

I thought his books were good sketches of the times he lived in.
I do not think he made a secret of how he wrote his books...he actually makes an appearance (or an actor portraying him does) in the old movie adaptation of A Human Bondage...I think...either that or the first Razor Edge movie.

I am FINALLY reading 'Kim', courtesy of my man Ice

hey
I am glad you like it
this will help with the contemporary references we do not understand today:
http://www.kipling.org.uk/bookmart_fra.htm
an excellent guide
I just finished Stalkey and Co ...very good too
just go to the section called the main works on the left hand of the page and find Kim and then look up the notes as you read each chapter

My daughter bought me a copy of his new novel Doctor Sleep last October. I'm now reading it. It's like a sequel to The Shining, 30 years later.
So far so good.

I did finish Kim. I really liked it but at one point thought it might end that way and it did, a little bit disappointing but still a great book.
I'm currently reading 'The Autobiography of a Supertramp' by William H. Davies, just a little way in, it seems very good.

I am still on Sergei Lukyanenko's Nightwatch.....
I have compeleted my CEU requirement for my x-ray license so I am taking a few deep breaths before I try the magnum opus: War and Peace. I found the translation that Tolstoy approved of...and that translates the French diaglog....so I will not have to use Google translate lol. It will take me most of 2014 lol...
