WASHINGTON — White House chief of staff John Kelly has eroded morale in the West Wing in recent months with comments to aides that include insulting the president's intelligence and casting himself as the savior of the country, according to eight current and former White House officials.

The officials said Kelly portrays himself to Trump administration aides as the lone bulwark against catastrophe, curbing the erratic urges of a president who has a questionable grasp on policy issues and the functions of government. He has referred to Trump as "an idiot" multiple times to underscore his point, according to four officials who say they've witnessed the comments.

Not till after mid term elections. Trump should fire Gen. Kelley and struggle to find a replacement, or give the job to one of his sycophants triggering an internal mutiny. Besides that will make three 'my' generals Trump will have fired. Fun, fun and more fun.

McCain torches Trump in new book

http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/3...toughness-over

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) lashes out at President Trump in a new book, saying the president seems to care more about “the appearance of toughness” than American values.

“He has declined to distinguish the actions of our government from the crimes of despotic ones,” McCain writes of Trump in a newly released excerpt from his new book, “The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations.”

“The appearance of toughness, or a reality show facsimile of toughness, seems to matter more than any of our values,” he continues.

Looks like Donny has given his pal Pecker permission to expose Cohen. I don't read this trash, will wait for Whell's review (as it's no doubt one of his fave "news" sources).

Has Michael Cohen Already Flipped on Donny?

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer...ald-trump.html

Cohen drew close to Trump because he started using his (almost certainly ill-gotten) wealth to buy real estate in Trump Tower, a favored investment vehicle for many criminal figures. What adds an extra layer of danger to Trump is that the alleged crimes with which Cohen could be charged are all state crimes. That is important because Trump can only pardon people for federal crimes. New York’s state attorney general Eric Schneiderman is partnering with Robert Mueller, and seemingly has the capacity to credibly threaten Cohen with a very long prison sentence for a potentially very long list of offenses spanning the rest of his life.

In that case, the best defense Trump has left is to discredit Cohen altogether, and make the case that he is fabricating evidence against the president to save his own skin. In other words, the narrative we see in the National Enquirer is an indication that Trump is seriously desperate. Discrediting Cohen is a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency move that makes no sense unless Cohen has already flipped.

In a post-truth world, there is no democracy

Jennifer Rubin summarizes the Trump issue beautifully. You'd have to be as dumb as Whell to not understand just how dangerous Trumpism is to democracy.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...-no-democracy/

Former CIA director Michael Hayden writes: “We in the intelligence world have dealt with obstinate and argumentative presidents through the years. But we have never served a president for whom ground truth really doesn’t matter.” When the commander in chief is irrational and driven by personal animus and emotion, intelligence briefings and skilled advisers may not be sufficient to steer the ship of state away from the rocks.

If you’re pushing the narrative that the FBI is corrupt, then you should be booted from office. If you said the tax cuts would pay for themselves (despite a mound of evidence), you really have no business being in charge of taxpayers’ money. In reaffirming the primacy of reality, voters can readily identify the lawmakers who have failed to uphold their oaths of office.

Fortunately, every House member and a third of the Senate will be on the ballot in November, along with dozens of governors and hundreds of state lawmakers. At a time when Trump’s pet evangelical figureheads have shed any pretense of upholding values, the rest of the country must insist on the value of truth-telling. Trump’s legislative allies need to be confronted with facts, shamed into acknowledging reality and, if need be, removed from office. If one or both houses flip to Democratic control, open oversight hearings and perhaps an independent commission or two will be essential to restore rational decision-making and accountability. You see, the purpose of flipping the House and/or Senate is not to remove the president but to stymie his crusade against reality. It’s only then that we can repair our democracy and begin addressing our policy challenges.

Donald Trump is no 'idiot.' He's something worse

https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/01/opini...ala/index.html

Finally, a word of caution for the Democrats: Don't attack Donald Trump's intelligence. Liberals already suffer from the conceit that they are more intelligent, and it can make them insufferable. Plus, in a weird way, calling President Trump stupid excuses his intentional acts of malice.

So, don't call him "moron" or "idiot;" call him what he is: a conniving, corrupt con man, a dangerous, divisive demagogue -- and, most sobering of all, the man who carried 30 states in the last election, and may well do it again if Democrats don't focus their fire more effectively.

OK, Don the Con it is.
