Kansas gets ready for 2016 election

By making it harder for poor people to vote.

Quote:
TOPEKA, Kansas — Kansas election officials are expected to begin removing the names of more than 31,000 prospective voters from their registration records Friday in line with the state's tough voter identification law, which requires applicants to prove their citizenship before casting a ballot.

Republican Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a leading advocate for rigorous voter identification requirements, directed county election officials to begin canceling the applications of prospective voters who after 90 days had not provided all required information and documents.

Alabama Too!

http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/201...vers_lice.html

Quote:
Outraged by the Alabama state Legislature's decision to close driver's license offices in mostly poor, black counties, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham, said Friday she would explore all avenues to get the state to reverse course. Driver's licenses are the most common form of identification that is compliant with the state's voter ID laws, which critics say disproportionately affect African Americans and the poor.

If you can't figure out how to vote in this country, you deserve to be poor.

Kris Kobach is actually a lit more than an "advocate for rigorous voter identification requirements". He's been deeply involved in drafting voter disenfranchisement legislation in states other than Kansas and also in drafting anti-immigrant legislation such as Arizona SB1070. The guy's a real peach.

This is the typical cliche' of the right - that poor people are poor because of lack of effort and rich people are successful solely because of their own efforts. If that is the case, why is does the corporate class seek to use the government to stack the deck in their favor?
