I do not know why I am not - angry people that must be much smarter than myself tell me I am blessed with white privilege, hetero-privilege, male privilege, and - I have just learned - thin privilege.

I suppose I should be more caring and empathetic - I should get a good tan, a sex change, and head down to the bakery for a dozen crullers.

No problem with honoring fat people if I don't have to participate in it.
But then as part of this "celebration" to vilify the "diet industry" as a CAUSE or
a problem -- tells me this is not about helping fix obesity.

Even IF the diet industry was inept, corrupt, and evil -- they do REMIND people that obesity is a problem. And that would cost a lot of bucks if the all-caring government was to pay for that messaging..

My favorite part:

She claimed 80 to 90 percent of people will regain the weight that they lose while on a diet. She stated that it is important for people to realize that “the body you have now is the only body you will ever have.”

Tovar’s idea that diet culture is a tool of “white heteronormative society” takes away all personal responsibility and power over one’s own body away from an overweight person. Tovar skipped over the idea that people who gain the weight back tend to return to their own diets. She also failed to mention the scientifically proven calorie deficit method.

“Exercise and diets are constructs,” Tovar said.

I thought the writer did a pretty good job of pointing out the projection and finger pointing, and then he goes and blows it with his own finger pointing, lamenting that the activist never mentioned the fast food industry.
Personal responsibility applies when eating out as well as in your own kitchen. Many people are able to eat at fast food outlets and not become huge repulsive beasts, using a technique known as self control.
