Louisville down a bridge.

Some of y'all might not be aware, but Louisville is a town on the Ohio River and is a major crossroads in the transportation system of the U.S.A.

Well the newest bridge across the Ohio River which handles the highway 64 east west traffic is closed indefinitely. Since Friday at 1700 when they found at least two cracks while doing routine maintenance. An announcement will be in three weeks on how long of a project the repair will be.

This has caused major traffic delays and extra hours on the road for commuters. Plus revenue losses to small businesses now without traffic.

So is this country going to allow a slow crumbling away of all the Infrastructures or are we as a nation going to leave something for or children?

I thought fuel taxes and other taxes were slated to fix these things. How about that stimulus money? This seems "shovel ready."

bh, something's shovel ready and it ain't asphalt!

I've got a decaying road on my way to work. Why hasn't Obama gotten right on it? Why does the GOP interfere with his good work?

The bridge issue is a sore one for louiavillians, been talk of building another one for over twenty years. At one time a new bridge was slotted to be built and was paid for through grants.

Well the people who wanted it "not in my back yard" fought and delayed it so now the latest is to fund with tolls. At one time tolls were to be on all of the bridges, old and new. The latest is to have two new bridges built with tolls. There is a push to have a German company finance it and get the tolls.

Once tolls were thought up the project seems to gathered speed. Makes some wounder what would be found if you'd follow the money.

I remember hearing an old story about machine politics. One of the most coveted patronage positions was toll collector. An outsider suggested that toll collector looked like a kind of menial position to be a reward. "Oh, not at all" replied the man in the little shed, "we get to keep every other toll."

Regards,

D-Ray
