I have also come to that conclusion. Hulu has a Criterion series heading.

Will give a look.

Cash Only: Definitely not a family film.

Gritty, violent Detroit and the new boys on the corner are the Albanians.

Pick Up On South Street: Richard Widmark, Jean Peter

An old favorite of mine. My introduction to Widmark and fond memories of being young.

A 1953 cold war, spy, black and white with the theme -- Better dead than red.

I like listening to dialog here; it sounds so much like that of Mickey Spillane.
Damn! I am really old...Mickey Spillane.

Ex Machina

Sci-fi thriller about AI, not your usual effects-laden-blow-shit-up stuff.

Suburra: The fix is in to turn an area near Rome into a "Las Vegas". However this sets into motion cross currents of mafias and corrupt
Catholic officials.

This violent tale looks into what moves Italy...a matrix of gangsters, clergy and politicians.

Netflix.

'Dream On' with John Fugelsang

John takes a roadtrip based on Alexis de Tocqueville's journey thru America in the early 19th century, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis_de_Tocqueville.
